We had a 5 night stay at the Sofitel Sydney in March 2010 as part of a tour of Australia. It was the longest stop in one location and we wanted a good standard of accommodation to end our trip.
We were very thrilled at check in when we were offered a complimentary upgrade to the concierge class level, which was a suite with access to the club room. They said this was due to us staying more than a couple of nights. The hotel was classical style and well maintained. The fragrance in the Lobby was lovely with fresh lilies in abundance. We had a great view from our 12th floor room, overlooking central Sydney. The beds were really comfy with lovely fluffy feather duvets and pillows, modern bathroom with large bath and walk in shower.
We made full use of the Club room, it was a self service small buffet with plenty of snack style canapés/cheese/salads/cold meat along with endless wines/spirits/beers and soft drinks. After being out sightseeing all day it was a relaxing treat to come back to. We had breakfast there too which was also of a good standard. It is definitely worth booking a club room as prices in Sydney for dining out/ bars are slightly higher than in the UK. Just downstairs from the hotel is the main shopping/business district in Sydney with all the major brands, there are some great food halls in the large department stores where you can buy fresh salads/sushi/ sandwiches for lunch to take out with you sightseeing. Most sights are within walking distance from the hotel.
The staff at the concierge were helpful in recommending the best sights and how to reach them, the staff in general in the hotel were really pleasant and friendly.
The Sofitel definitely lived up to its 5 stars and I would stay there again without a doubt.
